Melvindale Thrive Initiative was founded on February 10, 2026, because we believed our community deserved more than good intentions. We saw needs all around us — children who needed more opportunities, families struggling to find resources, seniors and residents with disabilities who needed support, neighborhoods that needed attention, and people who genuinely wanted to help but did not always know where to begin.
What started as frustration with seeing needs go unanswered became a decision to do something about it. Instead of waiting for someone else to step in, we created Melvindale Thrive Initiative as a way to bring residents, volunteers, schools, businesses, nonprofits, donors, and community partners together and turn ideas into action.
We are still a young organization, and we are building as we go. But from the beginning, our goal has been simple: listen to our community, find the gaps, bring people and resources together, and create practical opportunities that make life a little better for the people who live here. Whether that means giving a child a place to create and learn, putting books into the hands of families, helping provide basic necessities, cleaning up a neighborhood, improving access to food, supporting seniors, creating safer communities, or simply giving people a reason to come together — that is what thriving means to us.
This organization was built for the community, with the community, and we believe the strongest solutions come from the people who know their community best. We are only getting started.
