MTI Is Growing — Leadership & Volunteer Recruitment

Melvindale Thrive Initiative is currently seeking a Vice President and additional active, dependable individuals who care about nonprofit service and want to help us build stronger community connections.

We are also looking for someone with an interest or experience in marketing, communications, social media, outreach, or public relations to help us tell our story, promote our programs, recognize our partners, and reach more residents, volunteers, donors, and supporters.

Strengthening Our Nonprofit Governance

Behind the scenes, MTI is completing a major review and update of our organizational policies, procedures, board expectations, and operational manual.

We are using recognized Standards for Excellence nonprofit governance practices as a guide as we strengthen our leadership, accountability, transparency, policies, and long-term organizational structure.

This work takes time, but building a strong nonprofit means making sure the organization itself is as responsible and well-prepared as the programs we create.

Community Emergency Preparedness Training

Founder and President Jennifer E. Justice is completing Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training on November 7, 2026.

This training will strengthen MTI's ability to promote emergency preparedness, safety education, and community resilience.

We strongly encourage residents to learn emergency-preparedness skills whenever possible. Future CERT training opportunities will be shared as dates become available.

Wayne County Adopt-A-Road — Officially Approved

Melvindale Thrive Initiative has officially received its Wayne County Adopt-A-Road approval for Allen Road between Oakwood and Outer Drive.

Our next steps include picking up the program equipment and supplies and scheduling additional volunteer cleanup opportunities.

We are excited to continue helping care for this important community corridor.

Supporting Students at Allendale Elementary

MTI is currently collecting and purchasing needed clothing and essential items for students at Allendale Elementary School.

Some of the requested items have already arrived, with additional supplies on the way. Once everything is received and organized, the donations will be delivered to the school.  The clothes have been delivered to Allendale minus a 20 pack of socks.  We are still waiting on delivery.

More Books Are Coming

Our literacy work continues.

MTI is preparing for another pickup of children's books that will be distributed back into the community, helping more children have books of their own and increasing access to reading materials.

Expanding Neighborhood Book Access

We are also working on additional Little Library and community book-access opportunities.

Some applications and projects require additional organizational documentation and board participation, so this work is still in progress. We will share updates as projects are approved and ready to move forward.

There Is A Lot Happening Behind the Scenes

Many nonprofit projects begin long before the public sees the finished result. MTI is currently working on grants, partnerships, policies, board development, donations, literacy projects, youth programming, food-access initiatives, community safety, environmental projects, and future events at the same time.

We may be a young organization, but we are continuing to build the foundation needed to serve our community for years to come.
