Melvindale Thrive Initiative is growing, and we need people who are ready to get involved and help us build something lasting. We are a volunteer-led nonprofit with many programs and projects developing at the same time. There is more work to be done than one person can carry alone, and we are looking for people who are dependable, hands-on, creative, community-minded, and willing to help turn ideas into action.
Melvindale is a small community of about 12,325 residents, and current Census estimates show that about 39.1% of residents live below the poverty level. About 32.3% of the population is under age 18. These numbers show why strong local programs, volunteers, partnerships, and resources matter.
We Need Volunteers
There are many ways to help.
We will be recruiting volunteers for Allen Road Adopt-A-Road cleanups, youth programs, arts and STEAM activities, literacy and book distribution, food and clothing assistance, community events, environmental projects, Downriver Vibe Tribe activities, and future programs.
We also plan to work with schools, colleges, volunteer organizations, and community-service programs so participants can earn documented volunteer hours when appropriate.
We especially need people who can help behind the scenes.
We are currently seeking:
A dedicated grant writer or grant-research volunteer
Marketing, communications, social media, and public-relations help
Fundraising and sponsorship support
People who are good at building relationships with businesses, foundations, and community organizations
Program coordinators and event volunteers
Administrative and organizational support
People willing to help develop partnerships and secure in-kind donations
Active prospective board members who are willing to work, participate, and help the organization grow
We need people who are not simply looking for a title. We need people who want to help create programs, make connections, solve problems, and strengthen the organization.
MTI is continuing to strengthen and expand its Board of Directors and leadership structure.
If you care about children, families, seniors, people with disabilities, food access, literacy, neighborhood improvement, arts and culture, environmental stewardship, community safety, or building stronger Downriver communities, there may be a place for you here.
